Filipino tennis star Alex Eala heads to US hard‑court season after historic Wimbledon run
Filipina tennis player Alex Eala became the first Filipino to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2026, upsetting world No. 3 Iga Świątek and earning a No. 29 seed, the highest ever for a Philippine player at a Grand Slam. Senator Joel Villanueva honored her with a Senate resolution, praising her breakthrough and its impact on Philippine sport.
Following her Wimbledon success, Eala will begin the North American hard‑court swing at the Mubadala DC Open in Washington, D.C. (July 27 – Aug. 2). She is slated to play the National Bank Open in Toronto (Aug. 2 – 13) and the Cincinnati Open (Aug. 13 – 23) before the US Open in New York (Aug. 23 – Sept. 13). She will also appear in the US Open Fan Week Exhibition on Aug. 27 alongside other rising stars.
