Fillea CGIL Enna criticizes stalled construction contract negotiations
Salvo Carnevale, the general secretary of Fillea CGIL Enna, has criticized the prolonged delay in renewing the provincial supplementary contract for the construction sector in Enna, Italy. He described the negotiations as an “infinite, exhausting” process that has stalled for too long.
Carnevale argued that the delay has fundamentally altered the economic landscape, rendering previous negotiation terms obsolete. He noted that changes in the cost of living and a decrease in purchasing power mean that any new agreement must be renegotiated to reflect current economic realities rather than relying on conditions established over a year ago.
The union leader warned that workers face a structural erosion of wages, suggesting the current economic situation for many families is more severe than during the Covid-19 pandemic. Carnevale called for the government to provide better support, specifically requesting tax relief for territorial bargaining to address the specific needs of the construction industry.
