Film and Publications Board urges safe online habits

The Film and Publications Board (FPB) is urging the South African public to adopt safer online habits in observance of Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October. Under the theme ‘Don’t Make It Easy for Them,’ the initiative focuses on promoting digital safety and the protection of personal data.

The FPB emphasized that digital safety is a basic life skill rather than a purely technical one. To protect against cyber threats, the board recommends several key practices, including using unique passwords for different accounts to prevent widespread access if one is compromised, and utilizing password manager apps.

Additionally, the FPB advises enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on sensitive accounts, such as email and banking apps, to provide an extra layer of security. The board also warns users to exercise caution with links and messages to avoid increasingly sophisticated online scams.
