Film education and student festivals expand in Yucatán and Caracas

In Yucatán, filmmaker Mafer Suárez has launched the ‘Travesía Cinematográfica’ workshop, a free program supported by the Secretaría de la Cultura y las Artes (Sedeculta). Held at the Centro Cultural La Ibérica, the workshop focuses on professionalizing artistic skills through practical training in scriptwriting, character construction, cinematography, and actor direction. Suárez emphasizes the necessity of strong narrative rhythm to maintain audience engagement regardless of budget.

Meanwhile, in Caracas, the 3rd edition of the Encuentro en Corto: Cine Estudiantil (EEC) 2026 is set to take place from August 26 to September 6 at the Cinemateca Nacional. The festival features 72 student short films in fiction and documentary categories, submitted by students from 17 different educational institutions. The event includes cash prizes for winners, special mentions, and a public vote, alongside a series of masterclasses and workshops designed to foster cinematic development.
