Film “Era uma noite de São João” screens at João Pessoa’s Cinema Passeio
The short musical animation ‘Era uma noite de São João’, directed by Bruna Velden, will be shown free of charge at the public Cinema Passeio in João Pessoa, Brazil, on Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21, each day from 16:00. The 11‑minute film celebrates the Junine festivals of the Northeast and tells the story of an elderly widow, Dona Dorinha, recalling her life through the town’s traditional celebrations.
The screening is organized by the Fundação Cultural de João Pessoa (Funjope), which funded the production through its municipal cultural fund. Funjope executive Marcus Alves highlighted the cinema’s role in providing exhibition space for local audiovisual works and in training audiences. The film has participated in more than 80 festivals worldwide and was a finalist for the Grande Otelo prize, the Brazilian cinema award.
Velden stressed the scarcity of distribution outlets for Brazilian shorts, noting that venues like Cinema Passeio are essential for showcasing regional culture.
