Film festivals conclude eleventh editions in Vila-seca and Salamanca

Two international short film festivals in Spain have concluded their eleventh editions.

The Vila-seca International Short Film Festival (FICVI) drew over 2,000 visitors. From a selection of 47 films chosen from 1,130 submissions across 61 countries, nine short films received awards. Key winners include ‘I’m glad you’re dead now’ by Tawfeek Barhom for best international fiction, ‘Ningú Borda’ by Júlia Coldwell Serra for best national fiction, and ‘Cap al Cel’ by Nicolás Sole for best animation. These three winners receive automatic preselection for the Goya Awards. In the documentary category, ‘Abata’ by Aner Etxebarria and Pablo Vidal won best national documentary.

In Salamanca, the XI International Short Film Festival on Older People (FICMA) also held its closing ceremony at the CMI Trujillo. Promoted by the Federation of Associations of Seniors of Salamanca (Famasa), the festival focuses on themes related to aging. The best fiction short film award went to ‘Quan Només Quedem Nosaltres’ directed by Pep Álvarez, which explores loneliness and memory in a future setting. The best documentary award was presented to ‘¡Olé Paco!’ directed by Juan Carlos García Valle.
