Film festivals drive economic and community impact in the Balkans
Film festivals in the Balkan region serve as significant drivers for local economies and community engagement. In Croatia, investment in festivals yields high returns for local communities through increased demand for accommodation, catering, and technical services. The Croatian Audiovisual Centre (HAVC) co-financed 78 audiovisual manifestations in 2025, highlighting a diverse landscape that ranges from large-scale established events to smaller, intimate boutique festivals.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Sarajevo Film Festival continues to foster community through strategic partnerships. UNIQA Osiguranje, a major sponsor, utilized the 32nd edition of the festival to connect brand values of security and community with the audience experience. Through initiatives like the UNIQA Summer Cinema Stari Grad, the partnership aimed to integrate insurance services into the daily lives of festival attendees while enhancing the shared cinematic experience.
