Film Ibuku selected for Busan International Film Festival competition

The film ‘Ibuku’, directed by Eddie Cahyono, has been selected for the competition lineup at the Busan International Film Festival. Starring veteran actress Christine Hakim and Ayushita Nugraha, the film has secured international sales rights through Asian Shadows to manage its global distribution.

Shot on 16mm, the story follows Sumiati, a widow in a Javanese village, as she learns her daughter is facing execution in Saudi Arabia after killing a man who attempted to abuse her. The narrative explores the struggles of Indonesian migrant workers and the families left behind due to financial hardship and domestic issues.

The production involves ANP Talenta Media from Indonesia and Japan’s Knockonwood Inc., with creative production support from Chinese Shadows. The film aims to bring local Indonesian stories to a global audience via the international film market.
