Film industry developments in Guinea and French Guiana
In Guinea, the Salon du Cinéma Guinéen and the FIF Awards have announced a partnership to professionalize the national film industry. Scheduled for November 19–21, 2026, in Conakry, the joint event aims to address cultural sovereignty, infrastructure, and financing. Organizers intend to transform the sector into a structured industry that attracts both African and international filmmakers.
In French Guiana, the eighth edition of the Festival International du Film documentaire Amazonie-Caraïbes (FIFAC) concluded in Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni with record attendance. The festival drew 6,184 spectators, a 17% increase from the previous year. The program featured 45 screenings from 14 territories, with a significant focus on female directors and themes such as identity, exile, and colonial memory.
