Film industry faces compressed promotional windows

Major film productions are increasingly facing compressed promotional windows due to rigid release schedules. Business deals and commitments to Over-the-Top (OTT) streaming platforms often lock in theatrical release dates, making it difficult for producers to postpone films even when technical work like VFX, editing, or sound design is still being finalized. This trend forces marketing campaigns to occur much closer to the release date than is traditional.

In the context of high-budget spectacles, the quality of early promotional content is critical. For the upcoming film Raaka, the release of its first glimpse was delayed from Allu Arjun’s birthday to Atlee’s birthday because the production team was unsatisfied with the initial visual output. For large-scale projects, the success of the first visual is seen as vital for managing audience expectations and ensuring the film's commercial viability.
