Film industry sees high revenues as new Hunger Games film eyes billion-dollar mark

The film industry is experiencing a significant period of growth, with 2026 seeing the highest box office revenues since 2019. Several films have already surpassed the $1 billion mark, including titles such as Super Mario Galaxy, Toy Story 5, and Spider-Man: New Day.

Looking ahead to the remainder of the year, only four upcoming film premieres are realistically positioned to reach the $1 billion milestone. One notable contender is the new installment in The Hunger Games franchise, titled ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise of the Harvest’. This production focuses on Haymitch Abernathy and the 50th Hunger Games, featuring a cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, and Jesse Plemons.

Separately, actress Glenn Close drew significant attention at a Disney D23 fan event in Los Angeles. The 79-year-old actress appeared in costume as her iconic character, Cruella de Vil, evoking her role from the 1996 film ‘101 Dalmatians’.
