Film ‘Izlet’ selected as Serbia’s Oscar candidate

The film ‘Izlet’ (The Excursion), directed by Nenad Pavlović and produced by Belgrade-based Digimedia, has been unanimously selected as Serbia’s official candidate for the 99th Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.

Based on the 1957 novel by the renowned artist and writer Mića Popović, the black-and-white drama follows a young man named Toma on a mystical journey down a river to escape a totalitarian society and personal tragedy. The film aims to evoke significant eras of Serbian art, including Zenitism, Mediala, and the ‘Black Wave’ in domestic cinema.

The selection was made by a specialized commission. Nominations for the Oscars will be announced on January 21, 2027, ahead of the ceremony scheduled for March 14, 2027, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
