Film ‘Nasza rewolucja’ explores the life of Jacek and Gajka Kuroń
The film ‘Nasza rewolucja’ (Our Revolution), directed by Piotr Domalewski, explores the personal relationship between Jacek Kuroń and his wife, Grażyna (Gajka) Kuroń. Premiering at the 51st Gdynia Film Festival, the movie focuses on their bond amidst the political turmoil of communist-era Poland.
Rather than a traditional political biopic, the film portrays the couple as individuals whose private lives were deeply intertwined with the struggle for freedom. It depicts the challenges they faced, including imprisonment, political repression, and separation. The narrative highlights Gajka’s role in supporting her husband’s anti-communist activities and the personal toll taken by the martial law period, including her own health struggles.
Lead actors Magdalena Popławska and Arkadiusz Jakubika portray the couple. Producer Robert Kijak noted that the film aims to commemorate both individuals, emphasizing that their marriage was a central element of Jacek Kuroń’s life alongside his historical role as an opposition leader.
