Film reviews: Thai dog drama and Brad Pitt survival story
Two new film releases are being reviewed, covering diverse themes from animal companionship to survival in the wilderness.
The Thai production, titled “Piesek” (Dog), is produced by GDH 559. The film follows the life of a stray dog named Gohan, who later becomes Brownie and finally Hima, across three distinct stages of life: youth, adulthood, and old age. Each segment is directed by a different filmmaker: Chayanop Boonprakob, Nattawut Poonpiriya, and Atta Hemwadee. The story aims to connect with global audiences through its bittersweet portrayal of the bond between humans and dogs.
In contrast, the American film “Heart of the Beast” (W sercu dziczy), directed by David Ayer and starring Brad Pitt, follows a war veteran living in isolation in Alaska. After a plane crash leaves him and his injured dog stranded in the wilderness, the pair must trek through dangerous terrain to find help. While the film focuses on the bond between man and animal, critics have noted issues with unrealistic survival elements and artificial-looking computer-generated animals.
