Film screenings scheduled in British Columbia

The Williams Lake Film Club, in partnership with Williams Lake for Humanity, will host a screening of the award-winning documentary ‘American Doctor’ at Paradise Cinemas on October 22. Directed by Poh Si Teng, the film follows three physicians—Dr. Mark Perlmutter, Dr. Thaer Ahmad, and Dr. Feroze Sidhwa—as they volunteer at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza. The documentary uses a cinéma vérité style to depict the medical realities and personal risks faced by the doctors during the conflict.

Additionally, the Shuswap Film Society will present ‘My Father’s Shadow’ at the Salmar Grand Theatre on October 17. Co-written by Akinola Davies Jr., the film is a portrait of family and loss set in 1993 Nigeria during the transition from military rule to democracy. The film, which received a Caméra d’Or Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival, follows a father and his two sons on a journey to Lagos.
