FILMETRAD documentary festival concludes first edition in Asturias

The International Documentary Film Festival of World Traditions, known as FILMETRAD, has completed its inaugural edition held in the Asturian municipalities of Cabranes and Piloña. The festival received over 250 submissions, from which 21 documentaries were selected for screening across seven days in Torazu, Pandenes, Santolaya, and L’Infiestu.

Winners were determined by audience votes. The award for best documentary feature was shared by ‘21. 000 palabras (Un capezuto e dos collons)’ by Maxi Campo, which focuses on preserving the belsetán linguistic variety, and ‘Cierzo y sed, el corazón de Iberia’ by Ana Escario and Javier Jiménez, which explores the music and customs of the Ebro valley.

In the medium-length category, ‘Hauspoa & Tunela’ by Iñaki Pinedo and Gorka Hermosa won, while the short film ‘Tacho’ by Rubén Seca received the top prize for best documentary short. The winning works focus on themes of memory, rural traditions, and linguistic preservation.
