Filmmaker Hiroshi Ishikawa returns with The Blue We Touch

Japanese filmmaker Hiroshi Ishikawa is returning to feature filmmaking after a thirteen-year hiatus with a new ensemble drama titled ‘The Blue We Touch’ (original title: ‘Awo no Jo’). The project, which Ishikawa wrote, directed, and edited, is currently in post-production.

Bitters End has announced a planned Japanese release for 2027. The film follows several interconnected characters: Mitsu, a 29-year-old contract web designer seeking permanent employment; Ayane, a night worker preparing to become a prosecutor; and Tomoki, an art student struggling with figure drawing. The narrative explores themes of employment, art, and the complex emotions shared between former friends.

The cast includes Nao, Karata Erika, Nakajima Ayumu, Aoki Yuzu, and Nakano Arisa. Ishikawa, known for works such as ‘Petal Dance’ and ‘Su-ki-da.’, is recognized for his stylistic handling of color and the atmosphere of everyday life.
