Filmmaker Maria Tsioli dies in Athens traffic accident

Award-winning filmmaker and screenwriter Maria Tsioli has died at the age of 29 following a traffic accident on Alexandras Avenue in Athens. Tsioli, whose work had been featured at significant international festivals, was one of three victims in the collision.

At the time of her death, Tsioli was preparing to film her new project, titled ‘Perasmi’, in the villages of Agrafa, specifically in Megala Vrangiana. The film, which focused on the life of a teenage shepherd, was intended to be shot this autumn with the support of the Municipality of Agrafa.

Following the tragedy, the Mayor of Agrafa, Alexis Kardabikis, announced that the filmmaker's family and collaborators intend to complete the film according to her original vision. Kardabikis, who had recently discussed the production with Tsioli and producer Spyros Skandalos, pledged the municipality's support to ensure the project is realized as she had dreamed.
