Kyrsten Sinema admits to affair with bodyguard in court deposition

Former U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema has admitted under oath to a months-long sexual relationship with her former bodyguard, Matthew Ammel. The admissions were made during a July 31 deposition in a federal court case.

Heather Ammel, the ex-wife of Matthew Ammel, filed a lawsuit against Sinema in North Carolina. The suit utilizes the state’s rare “alienation of affection” statute, alleging that Sinema’s actions contributed to the breakdown of her 14-year marriage. Heather Ammel is seeking at least $75,000 in damages.

Sinema testified that the affair began around Memorial Day 2024 at an Airbnb in Napa, California. She detailed subsequent encounters in various locations, including New York City, Washington, D.C., Phoenix, and Aspen, Colorado. Sinema’s legal team is seeking to dismiss the case, arguing that the North Carolina courts lack jurisdiction because the alleged affair did not take place within the state.
