Filmoteca de Andalucía digitizes Plus Ultra flight films

The Filmoteca de Andalucía has completed an ambitious project to digitize five historical films in 4K quality to commemorate the centenary of the Plus Ultra's transatlantic flight. The expedition, which departed from Palos de la Frontera in January 1926, marked a significant milestone in aviation by connecting Spain and the Americas.

The restoration project, which began in 2023, involved collaboration with the film libraries of Galicia, Catalonia, Zaragoza, and the Filmoteca Española. The recovered footage documents various stages of the journey, from the initial preparations to the aviators' return and their large-scale reception in April 1926.

To celebrate the achievement, a free public screening will be held in Palos de la Frontera on October 28. The event will feature the recovered material accompanied by an original soundtrack performed live by 30 musicians under the direction of Alberto Cubero.
