FIM and Hexagon partner to modernize WorldSBK design verification

The International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) and Hexagon have entered a multi-year agreement to modernize the validation and verification of racing motorcycle designs. The collaboration aims to improve and standardize technical homologation and regulatory compliance processes for the FIM World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK).

Starting with the 2026 racing season, FIM technical evaluators will utilize Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division equipment, specifically the Absolute Arm 7-axis portable measuring arm and the Absolute Scanner AS1 laser scanner. These tools will be used to measure dimensions of motorcycles and individual parts to ensure they meet strict design guidelines and precise tolerances required by technical regulations.

Dominique Hebrard, technical director of FIM CTI, noted that traditional methods were extremely laborious and made it difficult to evaluate complex geometries, such as aerodynamic surfaces. The new portable inspection and digitalization technologies are intended to provide faster and more accurate evaluations.
