Fimi calls for exclusion of AI-generated songs from Sanremo 2027

Enzo Mazza, CEO of the Italian Music Industry Federation (Fimi), has issued an appeal to ensure that the Sanremo Music Festival 2027 remains a showcase for human creativity. Fimi is calling for the exclusion of songs created with generative artificial intelligence from the competition.

The federation requests that the selection process, overseen by artistic director Stefano De Martino, adheres to global industry standards. This would ensure that only tracks substantially produced by human songwriters, musicians, producers, and arrangers are eligible to compete.

Mazza noted that while AI can serve as a tool to assist human creators, it should not replace them. Fimi has already implemented measures such as a voluntary labeling system to distinguish between 'AI-Generated' and 'AI-Assisted' tracks, as well as specific criteria for including AI-developed recordings in the Top of the Music official charts.
