Final Fantasy VII Revelation to launch multiplatform on April 8, 2027

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is set to launch on April 8, 2027, marking a significant shift in Square Enix’s distribution strategy. Unlike the previous entries in the remake trilogy, which launched as PlayStation exclusives, Revelation will be available simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated in an interview with Edge Magazine that this multiplatform approach is an “inevitable outcome” of changing player habits. He noted that modern gamers are no longer tied to a single piece of hardware, often switching between TVs, desktops, and handheld devices. Hamaguchi emphasized that future AAA development should focus on delivering a consistent core experience across diverse environments rather than solely maximizing high-performance hardware capabilities.

In addition to the platform shift, new gameplay features have been revealed, including a hot spring (onsen) mechanic. This feature allows characters to interact in social settings, unlocking unique dialogue, special cutscenes, and character-driven stories. The game is expected to be a massive experience, with file sizes reaching approximately 200 GB and gameplay spanning over 100 hours.
