Final Fantasy VII director discusses Switch 2 success

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of the Final Fantasy VII remake series, has commented on the decision to bring the franchise to Nintendo Switch 2 hardware. Hamaguchi noted a personal emotional connection to Nintendo, observing that the original Final Fantasy VII marked the series' departure from Nintendo platforms to PlayStation. He described the return to Nintendo hardware as feeling like “fate” or “destiny.”

From a business standpoint, Hamaguchi stated that the move to a multiplatform approach has been highly successful. He indicated that the series has performed “really well” on the Switch 2, contributing significantly to Square Enix’s recent financial results. The director noted that the announcement of Final Fantasy VII Revelation during Summer Game Fest positively impacted the sales of the previous two games in the remake series.
