Final Fantasy VII Revelation set for April 2027 release

Square Enix has confirmed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027. The title will be available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated that while the game concludes the remake trilogy, it is designed as a standalone experience that new players can enjoy without prior knowledge of Remake or Rebirth. However, he recommends playing the previous entries to fully appreciate the narrative conclusion.

Development details revealed include a new tool system featuring a camera and flashlight for exploration, and a parachute mechanic inspired by Fortnite for navigating the map. The game will also feature expanded roles for characters like Cid and Vincent, and a mandatory story arc involving Wutai.

Controversy has arisen regarding the PlayStation 5 physical edition, which will require a mandatory digital download to complete the software due to disc capacity limitations. Hamaguchi noted that the team chose digital supplements over compromising visual or audio quality.
