Final Fantasy XIV launches on Nintendo Switch 2
Square Enix has released the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV on the Nintendo Switch 2. A technical analysis by Digital Foundry indicates that while the game provides a satisfying experience, players should maintain modest expectations regarding performance on the new hardware.
In handheld mode, the game runs at 720p with certain elements like menus and the HUD at 1080p. When docked, the game runs at 1080p and is upscaled to 2160p. The technical review noted that handheld visuals lack reflections and ambient occlusion techniques, which reduces graphical depth. While the 30fps mode performs well, the uncapped framerate mode is inconsistent and rarely reaches 60fps. Load times are considered tolerable, though they increase significantly when graphics settings are set to maximum.
Additionally, the game's popularity continues to drive merchandise interest, including the release of a second official cookbook featuring over 70 recipes from expansions such as Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail.
