Finance Minister Durigan outlines debt targets and Correios funding limits

Brazilian Finance Minister Dario Durigan has outlined key fiscal priorities, including a commitment to limit future public funding for the state-owned postal service, Correios. Following a planned R$ 6 billion injection in 2027, the government intends to stop providing new capital to the company, aiming to transition it toward private partnerships and market innovation to ensure self-sufficiency.

Regarding national macroeconomics, Durigan addressed the trajectory of Brazil's public debt. While acknowledging current levels, he expressed a goal to stabilize debt growth starting in 2029, aiming to keep the debt-to-GDP ratio at or below 80% by 2030. This comes amid recent data showing the federal public debt rising to over R$ 9 trillion.

Additionally, the Minister noted that the government is evaluating new restrictions on the advertising and design of betting applications. These potential measures aim to protect families from excessive debt and income loss by addressing features that may encourage compulsive gambling.
