Financial experts advise on emergency fund levels for household stability
Financial experts suggest varying strategies for building an emergency fund to protect against unexpected expenses. Common recommendations include saving between 5% and 20% of monthly net income. While some German consumer organizations suggest maintaining a reserve equivalent to two or three monthly salaries, other financial advisors recommend a larger cushion of three to six months of basic expenses to ensure greater stability.
A study by Finax via the Financial Wellness Index reveals that financial resilience among Poles is relatively low. Approximately 22% of respondents reported that their savings would last less than a month if they lost their primary source of income, while 29% could sustain themselves for one to three months. Overall, 51% of Poles have a reserve covering no more than three months, whereas only 19% possess savings that could last longer than a year.
