Financial inclusion trends and savings methods in Mexico

The 2024 National Survey of Financial Inclusion (ENIF), conducted by INEGI and the CNBV, indicates that informal savings remain a common practice in Mexico. While keeping cash at home offers immediate availability, bank accounts provide additional benefits such as digital management, payment capabilities, and the potential for interest yields.

Differences exist between informal methods like 'tandas'—where a group contributes funds and members receive payouts in a set order—and traditional savings accounts, which allow money to remain available while potentially growing through returns. Additionally, Banco Plata has introduced new security features in its application to combat telephone fraud by alerting users when they attempt to access the app during an active call.
