Financial institutions in Paraguay and Bolivia expand QR payment services
Financial institutions in Paraguay and Bolivia are expanding digital transaction capabilities through QR code technology.
In Paraguay, Bancard has introduced a QR extraction feature via its POS Azul system. This allows merchants to offer cash withdrawals to customers without requiring a physical card or a purchase. The service is designed to assist areas with limited access to ATMs and provides merchants with a commission per operation at no additional cost. Currently, the service is available through several entities, including Banco Familiar, Banco Continental, Bancoop, Banco Nacional de Fomento (BNF), Banco Basa, Cooperativa Comecipar, and the EKO wallet.
In Bolivia, Banco Unión has launched a service allowing customers to make deposits via QR codes at teller windows. This innovation enables users to scan a code generated at the bank branch using their mobile banking app or digital wallet, reducing the need for physical cash handling and manual counting. The service is currently operational in 31 urban branches across the country.
