Financial literacy gaps impact Italian youth and small businesses
Financial literacy remains a significant challenge for both young people and small business owners in Italy. For youth, the lack of formal education in school regarding bank accounts, savings, inflation, and debt management leaves them vulnerable to economic instability and the complexities of digital credit platforms.
A survey by the Bank of Italy involving 5,000 micro-enterprise owners reveals that 55% of small entrepreneurs fail to reach a high level of financial proficiency. Specifically, only 45% of respondents answered at least seven out of eight basic financial questions correctly. Common knowledge gaps include risk capital, the cost of credit, and loan durations. Experts suggest that financial language is no longer just for specialists but is essential for making informed business decisions.
