Financial literacy initiatives target youth and Latino investors

Efforts to improve financial literacy and entrepreneurial mindsets are gaining momentum in Peru and among the Latino community in the United States. In Peru, where a national survey indicates only 40 percent of adults maintain a budget or formal savings habits, specialists from the ‘Formando Emprendedores del Mañana’ project—a collaboration between Scotiabank and Plan International—are promoting educational strategies for children and adolescents.

These recommendations include teaching youth to identify community problems, stimulating innovation through curiosity, distinguishing between needs and desires, and managing small household budgets to foster purposeful saving.

Parallel to these educational efforts, entrepreneur Gabriela Berrospi, founder of Latino Wall Street, is working to democratize investment knowledge. Moving from Lima to New York, Berrospi aims to transition the Latino community from traditional saving to active investing, viewing financial education as a vital tool for building generational wealth and overcoming economic barriers.
