Financial pressures impact young people in the Netherlands
Young people in the Netherlands are facing significant financial hurdles, including rising living costs, housing shortages, and student debt. Economist Veronique Estié notes that while salaries may grow, fixed expenses such as energy, groceries, and rent are increasing at a faster rate, making traditional milestones like homeownership much harder to achieve than for previous generations.
In one specific case in Katwijk, 29-year-old Kim van Paridon and her partner have chosen to live in a static caravan to minimize living expenses while funding their own hospitality business. After being unable to secure traditional bank loans to restart a previously bankrupt business, the couple turned to family loans to realize their entrepreneurial goals.
