Financial sectors adopt stablecoins and payee verification for global payments
Financial institutions and fintech companies are increasingly adopting new technologies to streamline and secure international payments. Stablecoins, such as USDT and USDC, are emerging as an alternative to traditional banking transfers. By utilizing blockchain networks, these digital assets allow for 24/7, direct transfers between compatible wallets, bypassing the multiple intermediaries and processing windows typical of traditional correspondent banking networks.
Simultaneously, there is a growing industry focus on payee verification to reduce fraud and misdirected payments. The Federal Reserve introduced a Payee Name Verification tool to assist financial institutions, while companies like IPID have secured $16 million in Series A funding to expand account verification networks across more than 50 countries. These verification systems are being integrated into APIs and treasury platforms to ensure recipient information matches account details before instant or cross-border payments are released.
