Financial stress identified as top mental health driver for Americans

New data from Intuit Credit Karma reveals that money is the primary source of stress for Americans, with 43% identifying finances as their top stressor. This exceeds concerns regarding the state of the world (18%) and career (12%).

Financial strain is closely linked to psychological well-being, as 61% of respondents report that their financial situation directly impacts their mental health. This connection is particularly pronounced among younger generations; 68% of Gen Z and 67% of millennials report such an impact. Additionally, 65% of Gen Z respondents noted they spend money specifically to manage stress or improve their mood.

Regarding overall life satisfaction, 69% of those surveyed stated that improving their finances would have the greatest impact on their happiness. To mitigate these pressures, 56% of Americans indicated that better financial tools and guidance could make money management less stressful.
