Finanzplatz München Initiative reorganizes as registered association

The Finanzplatz München Initiative (fpmi) has restructured itself into a registered association to better represent the interests of Munich’s credit and insurance industries. Founded in 2000, the network previously operated under the leadership of the Bavarian Stock Exchange but now possesses a formal organizational foundation to enhance its national and international profile.

Stefan Müller, President of the Bavarian Cooperative Association (GVB), has been elected as the first chairman for a two-year term. The leadership will rotate among member organizations, with other board members including Matthias Dießl of the Sparkassenverband Bayern and Dr. Markus Juppe of the Versicherungskammer Bayern.

The initiative aims to expand its activities through specialized events, networking formats, and delegation trips to promote Munich as an innovative financial hub. While the city lacks a major independent global bank, it remains a significant center for the insurance sector, hosting major corporations such as Allianz and Munich Re. Bavarian Economic Minister Hubert Aiwanger expressed support for the move, noting that a strong financial center is a vital factor for the state's economy.
