Finep allocates R$ 450 million for innovation in Brazil

The Brazilian Research Funding Agency (Finep) has increased its 'Mais Inovação Brasil' economic subsidy program to a total of R$ 450 million. This represents a R$ 150 million increase from the original R$ 300 million budget, as announced by Luciana Santos, Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation.

The funds are designated for 114 innovative projects involving technological risk, specifically targeting companies in the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions to promote regional development. The allocation is distributed as follows: R$ 150 million for the Northeast, R$ 100 million for the Central-West, and R$ 50 million for the North.

Approximately 75% of the approved projects belong to micro and small enterprises. Finep President Luiz Antônio Elias stated the initiative aims to reduce regional asymmetries by sharing technological development risks with the private sector. Specific beneficiaries include companies like Vittia, which secured up to R$ 10.1 million for bio-input research, and several firms in Rio Grande do Norte receiving R$ 21.1 million for projects in health and digital infrastructure.
