Finerenone endorsed for heart failure and shown to slow kidney decline in CKD trial

The UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) issued final draft guidance recommending finerenone as an option for adults with symptomatic chronic heart failure with preserved or mildly reduced ejection fraction. About 280,000 patients could become eligible, with trial data indicating a 16% reduction in worsening‑heart‑failure events and unplanned hospitalisations.

A separate Phase 3 FIND‑CKD trial found that finerenone slowed the rate of kidney function decline in adults with non‑diabetic chronic kidney disease, improving the annual eGFR change by 0.7 mL/min/1.73 m² compared with placebo. The study also reported a 23% lower risk of a composite kidney‑or‑cardiovascular outcome (hazard ratio 0.77). A pooled analysis (Infinity) confirmed reductions in heart‑failure hospitalisation and cardiovascular death, supporting finerenone as a third therapeutic pillar alongside RAS and SGLT2 inhibitors.
