Finestrat urban project faces scrutiny over property interests

Carlos Mazón, president of the Diputación de Alicante, inaugurated an urban project in Finestrat, praising the municipality as a model for the region. However, the project has become a point of political contention.

An internal dossier alleges that the urban redevelopment of Benidorm Avenue, which was subsidized by the Diputación, may have benefited Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, the current president of the Generalitat. The report claims that family-owned properties held by a company where Pérez Llorca serves as an attorney are located immediately adjacent to the project perimeter. It is alleged that these rustic lands saw increased value following the public works, which were inaugurated in April 2023 while Pérez Llorca was the mayor of Finestrat.
