Fingal County Council refuses Eirebus staff housing plan
Fingal County Council has refused a planning retention application from private bus operator Eirebus Ltd for modular accommodation units at its transport depot on Corduff Road in Dublin 15.
The proposal sought to retain 19 modular accommodation units and six mobile home units intended for employees. Council planners rejected the application, stating that the layout and arrangement of the units “represent a serious form of substandard residential living.” The council further noted that the development was haphazard, possessed a “poor-quality aesthetic” that negatively impacted the visual environment, and was incompatible with local zoning.
Planners concluded that the arrangement resulted in an “unsustainable and uneconomical use of the subject site” and warned that approving the units would set an inappropriate precedent. The refusal comes amid a broader trend in Ireland where private companies are increasingly seeking to provide staff housing in response to the national housing crisis. Eirebus has the option to appeal the decision to An Coimisiún Pleanála.
