In the U.S., Meta reached an $18 billion settlement regarding allegations that it knowingly created addictive services for minors and collected data on children under 13 without parental consent. These funds are designated for youth mental health services. This case is being compared to historical tobacco litigation, emphasizing the responsibility of tech giants regarding the known harms of their products.
