Finland and Sweden compete in major athletics and OCR events
Major athletics and obstacle course racing events are taking place in Northern Europe. In Helsinki, Finland and Sweden face off in a traditional athletics dual meet at the Olympiastadion. The competition is expected to be highly competitive; while statistics suggest a narrow margin for the Finnish women and Swedish men, officials describe the matchup as very even. Finland will be represented by European medalists Silja Kosonen, Alisa Vainio, and Wilma Heltelä, while Sweden's lineup includes Andreas Almgren and Wictor Petersson, though Armand Duplantis will not participate.
Simultaneously, the Swedish Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) Championships are being held in Lidköping as part of The Obstacle Race. The 12-kilometer course features approximately 50 obstacles. The competition includes senior, junior, and veteran categories, featuring top-ranked athletes such as defending champion Martin Bäckström and last year's winner Sara Bäckström. This follows recent success for the Swedish national OCR team at the World Championships in Limerick, where they secured multiple medals in Cross Country and 4x100 meter events.
