Finland business outlook and M&A activity show significant recovery
The business landscape in Finland is showing signs of significant recovery. According to the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce, business outlooks for the Helsinki region have turned positive for the first time in four years. Key indicators, including revenue and profitability projections, have improved since March, with profitability reaching positive levels for the first time in the survey's four-year history.
This turnaround is widespread across sectors, most notably in industry, trade, and services. The positive trend aligns with broader national economic data, including a 0.9 percent growth in GDP during the April–June quarter. Economists suggest that increased demand for labor may strengthen in the Helsinki region later this year, supported by improvements in construction, transport, and warehousing.
Simultaneously, Finland experienced a record number of mergers and acquisitions during the second quarter of the year. Data from EY shows 218 transactions took place, a 25 percent increase compared to the same period last year. This surge is attributed to a release of pent-up demand following previous delays caused by geopolitical uncertainty. The most active sectors for these transactions included technology, media, and telecommunications, followed by real estate, hotels, and construction.
