Finland celebrates National Entrepreneur's Day
Finland is celebrating National Entrepreneur's Day, an annual event established in 1997 to honor the contribution of entrepreneurs to the economy and society. The day originated during the recession of the 1990s to restore faith in Finnish work and entrepreneurship.
In the Päijät-Häme region, local associations have announced their Entrepreneur of the Year selections for 2026. Getadeal Oy, a family-owned metal recycling company based in Asikkala, has been named the Asikkala Entrepreneur of the Year. Led by Samuli and Pia Sirkkunen, the company was recognized for its long-term, responsible operations in promoting the circular economy and environmental safety through metal recycling.
In Varkaus, the importance of entrepreneurship is highlighted by the city's industrial heritage, which recently received the European Heritage Label. Local discussions emphasize that entrepreneurship provides essential community support, including local employment and funding for regional services and sports activities.
