Finland celebrates National Senior Week in October

Finland will observe National Senior Week from October 5 to 11, 2026, focusing on physical activity, mental well-being, and social connection for older adults.

In Naantali, the Senior Council is coordinating a diverse program of free events. Activities include nature trips, physiotherapy group sessions, library cinema screenings, singing sessions, lectures, and workshops. A dedicated fair for seniors will be held on October 9 at the Naantali Sports Hall to showcase available services and activities. The week will conclude on October 11 with a celebration featuring a meal and coffee at the Naantali Parish Hall.

Broadly, the initiative emphasizes that regular movement is vital for seniors to maintain muscle strength, balance, and cognitive health. Group activities are highlighted as a way to combat isolation by combining physical exercise with social interaction, such as post-exercise coffee gatherings.
