Finland expands defense industry with mortar order and new TNT plant
Finland is significantly expanding its defense industrial capabilities through new procurement and infrastructure projects. The Finnish Defense Forces have formalized a contract with Patria to produce more than 100 Tremos 120 mm mobile mortars, designated as 120 KRH M3. Valued at 49.9 million euros, the deal aims to enhance the mobility and survivability of land units by providing a “shoot-and-scoot” capability, with deliveries expected between 2026 and 2028.
In a separate development, the United States will provide $20 million to support the construction of a TNT explosives plant in Pori, Finland. Operated by Forcit Oy, the facility is designed to meet the critical explosive needs of Finland, NATO, and Ukraine. Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen noted that the project strengthens the defense industrial base and demonstrates deep cooperation between the U.S. and Finland.
