Finland fuel prices rise significantly over one year

Fuel prices in Finland have seen significant increases over the past year, impacting both households and the transport sector. According to Statistics Finland, the average price of gasoline (95E10) rose from 1.73 euros per liter in September 2025 to 2.25 euros in September 2026, an increase of 0.52 euros per liter. Diesel prices experienced a sharper rise, climbing from 1.63 euros in September 2025 to 2.43 euros in September 2026, a difference of 0.80 euros per liter.

These rising costs contribute to broader inflationary pressures on food and other goods due to increased transportation expenses. The impact is particularly heavy for low-income commuters and businesses in the transport industry. For a driver covering 25,000 kilometers annually in a car consuming 8 liters per 100 kilometers, gasoline costs can increase by approximately 1,000 euros. Diesel users face even higher burdens; for instance, a vehicle traveling 40,000 kilometers annually consuming 7 liters per 100 kilometers could see costs rise by 2,240 euros.

The Finns Party has suggested that easing fuel taxes could alleviate pressure on households and businesses, though they acknowledge that such measures must be balanced against the need to manage the national deficit and find credible funding, potentially through cuts in public spending or development aid.
