Finland harvest season encourages food preservation

The Association of Finnish Women (Maa- ja kotitalousnaiset) is encouraging citizens to take advantage of a bountiful harvest season by preserving seasonal produce for the winter. With abundant blueberries, mushrooms—particularly chanterelles—and promising lingonberry forecasts from the Natural Resources Institute Finland, there are ample opportunities for preservation.

Preservation methods such as freezing, making jams, juicing, drying, and fermentation are being highlighted as effective ways to reduce food waste and prioritize domestic, seasonal ingredients. While the rise of household freezers in the 1960s and 1970s shifted traditional preservation habits, interest in these practices is currently growing as people seek to combine traditional methods with modern culinary trends.
