Finland housing costs expected to rise 2.7% this year

A study conducted by Pellervon Taloustutkimus PTT for the Real Estate Federation and the Detached House Owners' Association indicates that housing costs in Finland are expected to rise by an average of 2.7 percent this year.

The increase is primarily driven by rising interest rates, electricity prices, and heating oil costs. Heating oil prices have surged by approximately 29 to 30 percent compared to last year, influenced in part by conflicts in the Middle East.

There are notable disparities between housing types. Renters are in a significantly better position than homeowners, as market rent increases remain moderate and are expected to decline in the capital region. Conversely, homeowners, particularly those with mortgages, are facing higher costs. Single-family homeowners are seeing costs rise by nearly 5 percent on average, with the most significant increases among those using oil heating: nearly 9 percent for families with children and 14 percent for retirees.
