Finland sees electric vehicle registrations exceed 50 percent in August

In August, fully electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for 51.6 percent of all new passenger car registrations in Finland. This follows a historic trend started in July, which was the first time monthly EV registrations exceeded half of all new car sales in the country.

Year-to-date, Finland ranks third in Europe for the share of fully electric vehicles in new registrations at 48 percent, trailing only Norway (98 percent) and Denmark (80 percent). The total number of fully electric passenger cars in use in Finland surpassed the 200,000 mark in August.

Market data from Nettiauto indicates strong demand in the used car sector as well. Between January 1 and September 3, the volume of electric vehicle sales through dealerships increased by 34 percent, while sales of other engine types fell by 6 percent. The gross market value (GMV) for electric vehicles rose by 28 percent during this period.
