Finland tax authority to refund €1.1 bn to 2.1 million people on Aug 3

The Finnish Tax Administration (Verohallinto) will issue the year's largest tax‑refund payment on 3 August, crediting about 2.1 million taxpayers a total of roughly €1.1 billion. Refunds are scheduled each month from July to December, but the exact payment date may shift if a taxpayer or spouse amends a pre‑filled return, new tax information is received, the bank account on record is outdated, the refund is applied to outstanding taxes, or the amount is seized.

If a current bank account is missing, the refund is sent as a payment order to Nordea’s Omaposti service; about 14 800 people receive refunds this way each August. Recipients must claim the payment through the Omaposti portal, otherwise the funds revert to the Tax Administration after four weeks. The agency warns that fraudsters may send messages pretending to be from Verohallinto, urging people to click links or provide personal data – such communications never contain links and should be ignored.

The same week also marks the due dates for residual tax affecting 340 000 taxpayers (€260 million) and property tax for 1.9 million owners (€440 million).
